Pretty interested in the language, but not gonna learn it from Duolingo since I’ve heard that there are a lot of mistakes in the course.
Hey, what’s up!
That’s what I’m here for, too.ย
Occitan as well, but that’s a pipe dream, most like.ย
+1 there’s lots of groups focusing on the Welsh language who I’m sure would get involved
I, too, would love to see a Welsh course here! Welsh is so beautiful. I have the now ancient Rosetta Stone course that was only level 1, and they don’t even offer that anymore. I was never impressed with Duolingo’s Welsh course. Since I have access via my public library, I’ve asked Mango Languages several times if they will ever provide Welsh, but they never have a definitive answer. I’m grateful that they have Scots Gaelic, though, and provide it for free since it’s an endangered language.
For anyone interested: there actually is a Welsh course being developed on Lingonaut. And unlike Duolingo, where it was technically not possible, it will be in two versions: Northern and Southern.
@gisella_82570 I’ve always wanted to try welsh myself but i could never honestly find the resources for it as it’s not as popular as other languages, thank goodness lingonaut is adding it
hi
@vexo yes, Lingonaut is a great opportunity for Welsh as well as for minority languages that are even less known. There’s quite a few online resources about Welsh by now, but mostly for people who already have some degree of knowledge and just want to improve some skills, or their vocabulary etc.
@gisella_82570 yeah, lingonaut is probably gonna be one of the language learning options with the most languages by FAR becuase if 3-5 people who speak a small language make a course it opens the opportunity to make the language more well known, lingonaut is gonna be the new duo by 2026 i predict
ย
Also this is probably gonna be the only source with dialects of languages as options
hi
lingonaut is gonna be the new duo by 2026 i predict
We sure hope so!ย
Of course the problem in the long run is having enough moneyย resources and support to keep it going. After all, DL had started in a similar way, the Incubator (or something like that) and volunteers, but then went astray. 🙄ย
But we are optimistic here so one step at a time, we’ll see!ย
@gisella_82570 Yeah, i remember seeing zulu and haitian creole being worked on when the incubator was public, and if they do add a patreon button to the app, i can see them lasting for awhile, also i think they are gonna add a button that turns on ads if you want to support them, if lingonaut does hold up to their promises seeing fairly unknown/endangered languages being added would be good (Also if this does have Duolingo quality expect there to be a huge boost of people from YouTube with videos like “THIS NEW LANGUAGE APP IS OLD DUOLINGO!!!” or something like that lmao)
hi
@gisella_82570 apparently ingrian is being worked on by one non native speaker (A language with only 200 speakers)
hi
@vexo sure, it is possible, just challenging. And oh, bring on the Youtubers then! lmao
It will be great to give many disappearing languages a chance to be heard (and even learnt to some extent, even hough sadly it takes more to keep a language alive, it’s still better than nothing at all)
