Hey everyone, usually we do just one of these mid-month but today’s an important one! Lot’s to talk about.
And if you’re new, here’s our useful links:
We need more contributors!
Two weeks ago we opened up the second stage of vetting for our Translatonaut program, and we’ve had over 50 of the initial interested contributors fill out the form! It’s both humbling and great to see so many people who are willing to help in our mission of making language learning equally accessible for everyone, no matter where they’re from or who they are.
We still need some more though, there’s some languages that don’t meet our minimum manpower requirements. If you’re AT LEAST native or CEFR-C1 in one of the following languages:
- Spanish
- Swedish
- Serbian
- Greek
- Norwegian
- Croatian
- Portuguese
- Italian
Please first submit your applications in the #contributors channel and then secondly fill out this form , thank you!
Explain my answer using Computational Natural Language Processing
We’ve received many many many requests for implementing an explain-my-answer sort of feature in Lingonaut , and we had rejected the suggestion due to the following reasons:
- Costs for leveraging a third party API were extreme and we can’t afford it
- Costs for building out our own hardware to run llama were extreme and we can’t afford it
- Current generation models are in our opinion still too mistake-prone to reliably use as a teaching resource
- Are not fit as a substitute for the human element in language learning
However, after some tests, a series of algorithms built with conventional computing in mind is a possible way forward to implement this feature, and although it wouldn’t be possible to have it available on release (and we wouldn’t even begin work on it until some time after release and until we have the money), I am happy to say that it’s on our roadmap and will be available alongside the community discussions, at some point.
New Simulator screenshots!
As we continue to finish up and polish our launchpad and creatonaut I’d like to share new screenshots on the (near finished) Creatonaut toolkit. It’ll be in your hands in a couple of days with the czech course and I can’t wait for our Translatonauts to get stuck in with their courses!
Beta Release date
We now have a definitive release date! Providing we have no further delays we should have Testflight for iOS available on the first of September!
Monthly Q&As
I’d also like to remind you we hold Monthly Q&As on the first Monday of every month in the Discord! Our last Q&A has a VOD over on our youtube.
That’s all for now! I can’t wait to see you back here next month and show you everything we’re building.
