So i assume that most language app users are interested in learning 1 language, and so it stands to reason that the pedagogy of Duolingo (and presumably others, i’ve only vaguely tried a couple apps) is geared towards that.
Still, it’s easy to switch languages, and the wide offer (of at least beginner courses…) was and still is one of the main reasons to go on duolingo for me.
Anecdotally there is a significant contingent of users who practice 2 or more languages in parallel. Ofc they are probably overrepresented on boards such as this one or in the higher leagues and longer streaks, but I feel like this demographic might be a prime target for both donors and eventual users??? so perhaps it makes sense to emphasize features targeted at them in the development phase?
Anyway i wonder what features such users might be interested in.
I really have 1 suggestion myself: a multi-language daily refresh.
we all know and hate how stupidly implemented the daily refresh feature is, but one aspect i haven’t seen mentioned is the fact that it only offers to practice the currently selected language. this is a gamification failure for me, because i am sometimes unmotivated to practice one language and thus kind of forget about it (and then have a harder time picking it up) whereas i probably wouldn’t skip it if the app just made me practice it.
As a layperson it feels like it should be simple (i can feel the devs cringing at this phrase) to add the option to cycle through the languages on each practice lesson
anyway, i’m curious what all you aspiring polyglots think.
I already replied on the subreddit, but we can definitely take a look at something like this down th eline
