‘Break a leg!’ , the Lingonaut Handbook and revised Beta rollout

Hello everyone! Dr. Greenboys here (the Project Lead) , and I have some updates and news to share!

A Personal update and a massive thank you

By now I’m sure you’ve heard that the beta roll-out was delayed as I had unfortunately severely injured my leg and was stuck in hospital for the past few weeks whilst I awaited surgery and then recovered.

The good news is I am back home and now able to resume working on Lingonaut in order to get the Beta out as soon as possible! I hope you understand that it will take longer than initially expected as a not insignificant amount of my time is taken up practicing with crutches, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and continued recovery. Rest assured that I’m working as quick as I can and the delay in my part of the project has allowed other parts to catch up which is a silver lining.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their understanding and well wishes. The outpour has been massive with hundreds of positive messages hoping that I get well soon and some Lingonauts continuing to check in with me as to my wellbeing. It has been extremely humbling and I hold great pride in our community which has been so compassionate and understanding, I couldn’t ask for a better group of people (almost 6000 of us!) to come along on this language learning journey of ours.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

The Lingonaut Dossier 1.0

It took longer than we intended it to but after a few months, we’ve finished the first revision of The Lingonaut Mission Dossier! It’s a pdf handbook that among other things:

  • Outlines the people involved in the mission
  • Provides a clear chain of command for who to go to for what things
  • Gives and explains guidelines for contributors on how to structure and build out their courses
  • Explains commonly used slang or terms thrown around by the development team and community

Though it’s primarily targeted to contributors, anyone can read it and get useful information.

As with the rest of Lingonaut, the dossier is a constantly evolving work in progress, so it might be worthwhile to check back once in a while and see what’s new!

Revised Beta rollout

Due to the unexpected events mentioned above, the rollout schedule has changed somewhat as crunch time is no longer an option.

The new expected wave 1 roll out will be either the end of April or early May depending on how things go.

Just in case you missed it

Last month on the discord server we released some new images of the Crew to tide people over as I recovered, but if you missed them I’ve also attached them below for your convenience:

And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading and I hope to get Lingonaut in your hands as soon as possible.
